Schwarzenegger Museum

On a crisp October day in 2009, my husband and I set out on a journey to search for clues to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s dreams of success while he was growing up in Thal, Austria. We were lucky enough to meet the woman who had been living in the big, yellow house where Arnold had lived earlier until he was eighteen. When I asked Frau Anderwalt where we could find Arnold’s childhood school, she pointed northward across a green field to a large building with a red-tiled roof. She said that next to the school we would find not only the church Arnold’s family had attended, but an Arnold Schwarzenegger museum!

As my husband Charles drove down the country road past horse pastures and cottages toward the red-roofed school and dark blue church spire, I could hardly wait to see the school and church that had been instrumental in young Arnold’s life, as well as a museum displaying his milestones and achievements. Here are photos we took to share with TheArnoldFans.

Arnold attended the Hans Gross Volksschule through the eighth grade. After that he went to school in the nearby city of Graz.

Arnold’s primary school was in the same building that housed his father’s police station.

The church attended by Arnold’s family, Pfarrkirche St. Jakob, has been restored and looks much different from when he went there. Arnold’s family attended services at this Roman Catholic church every Sunday.

In the Arnold Schwarzenegger Museum, I bought souvenir pins, postcards and stickers. I also wrote a message in the guestbook saying I was pleased to represent TheArnoldFans. A sign above the guestbook said that all messages would be forwarded to Arnold.

Being hired in a company that you are applying and dreaming for is indeed a competition. You do not just go there and prepare your intellectual juices to impress your interviewer. You also dress for success to get the big “yes” from them. There is a basic interview dressing tips for women who may not be aware that they are not doing things right that could be the cause of declination of the company. Remember that first impressions last. Judgment is being given even before you talk but how you carry and dress yourself properly to the right occasion, especially if a professional meeting will be done like this. It is up to you if you would reject these tips or accept them.

10. Purse is a Big NO

There is no fashion statement to be observed before you put everything that you need in your bag. Although purse is a crazy fad today, employers will observe that and not even your too big bag since you are not going to bring your whole house up to your interview.

9. Follow Basic Hygiene

This is very basic. We do it each day and must religiously follow it since most of the activities that we do is in a socialization phase. Anyhow, you do not want to go to your interview with your hair unkempt, teeth unclean, and foul odor spreading like a virus. Keep your nails trimmed, shoes polished and of course, nothing defeats the natural fresh smell from a shower.

8. Too much is bad

Everything, which is done excessively, leaves a bad impression to your interviewer. Do not overdress yourself. Do not wear too much make-up. It should be minimal. It goes with the cologne or perfume that you would be wearing that day. Just a light scent would do. You are not going to create a magic spell to your future boss but you want to impress them rather than seduce them.

7. Check and Fit

Nothing beats a timely preparation. If you were informed a few days before your scheduled time of interview, you should check everything, especially if you are not going to wear new shoes, dress, pants and other professional clothing. Make sure that they are clean and well pressed. Check and prepare everything so you will not go on a rush to avoid any inconveniences on the said date.

6. Not too tight and casual

It does not matter if you would be interviewed by a man or a woman. You cannot wear your mini skirt, skimpy clothing, and other casual attire that may leave an impression to your interviewer that you are not up for the job but you are taking lightly of the position. Of course, this goes for positions that require professional outfits but to those who are applying for other positions where they might get dirty and would need other clothing, should never ignore this advice on that meet-up

5. Dress-up that Suits your Budget

Of course, if you have your resources then you could buy a decent pair of suits, skirts, and slacks. Hence, you do not need to dress like the President of the company just to please them. Stay on your budget because you might have more than two interviews for the day or more for the week.

4. Close-Shoes are Mandatory

In all standard office positions, you have to wear closed toe shoes, not slip-ons and a sandal, which is women’s favorite these days. They are not just for professional purposes but also to protect your feet from any accidents that might come while walking towards your job interview.

3. Professional Hairstyle

You are not going to attend a formal party and have your hair rolled up or produce curly styles. You do not need to show off your bangs. What you need is a simple hairstyle that you can easily maintain. You should not cause any distraction and you should be comfortable while talking to the executive of the company.

Dangles are not appropriate although they are cool earrings for party or gimmicks, but simple earrings like a pearl and a wristwatch would do. Too much accessories would result to casual get up. In fact, no jewelry at all is recommended but one or two are enough to be presentable.

Before you screw up your day and the person is who would talk to you, better check the company’s profile. Make enough research about the position that you are applying for, if it is within the frame of a typical office setting, follow 2 to 10, even if you will be working on a rugged and dirty job.

It is always important that you know your purpose why do you want to win the position over specific number of applicants. Sell your best self by not saying anything at all but projecting your best you through your clothes.

New Features Introduced in Apple iOS 5

Another highlight that has been discussed on this year’s Apple event is the iOS5, the newest mobile system that would shake the upcoming Android Ice Cream Sandwich or the Windows Mobile 7.5 Mango. With a new system comes the latest support and innovation applied on various devices such as the iPhone, iPod Touch, and the iPad. Without further adieu, let us check the latest updates on the newest features of the iOS 5.

Reminders have used to be done in a chronological order only, relying on what you have jotted down previously. The new OS has changed this way of thinking by having reminders be notified and reminded not just by time but also by place, with the use of GPS for instances where you are in a location and your reminders beep you of what you need to accomplish in that specific place. With iCloud, the reminders can also be accessed through different Apple devices.

You may have been too attached with MMS despite of feeling that this may be too costly for your service and data plans. However, the iOS5 is willing to take that thought off, as the system introduces the iMessage service. With this activated, you can send text messages, pictures, videos, and other files not only on your other Apple devices, but to everyone who has the said devices activated, without the charge. You can even have it done with just one person or with a whole group.


8. Notification Center


Pushing the screen downward is the usual way of reading notifications from other sources or apps. With the new and improved notifications center, you can read everything in one part of the device, where it minimizes disturbance and interruption. Or if you want, you can even choose what notifications appear on that upper section, even when locked.


7. Newsstand


This is a new addition to the app lineup. You no longer need to go to a magazine store just to read your latest magazines and other reading materials, even the daily newspaper. Yes, the Newsstand has everything you read and receive publications from. When you purchase a new subscription, it will be sent to your newsstand. When you receive new issues, it will be updated with the respective cover, just like the real thing.


6. Twitter Integration


No matter what you do, there will come a time that you may think of tweeting it and sharing it to people you know. If that moment comes and you are using an iOS5-enabled device, it would be easy to satiate your twitter finger hunger as you can include photos and other tweets at any application. With just one login, you can keep your tweets active on any application, whether you are surfing the net, using your camera, and even playing YouTube.

The Safari has been projecting website pages in an orderly and organized manner, with speed and performance to match. With the new iOS5 in the works, you can now save the reading list, or websites you are reading, and have it pulled up in any iOS5-supported devices such as the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. You can save it for now and read it later as it gets stored on the cloud.

You may have been living in an era when you needed to have your photos transferred to PC in order to edit, crop, and do other changes on your taken pictures with the embedded phone camera. All of these have changed with the new OS with apps that can crop, rotate, and improve red-eye reduction being done on the device.

Taking the most natural and realistic shots are done in occasions where you are not prepared. With this need, the camera feature included in the iOS5 made the operation even faster than before. In fact, among all the smartphones existing in the market, it has been proven that the camera can activate in 1.1 seconds and 0.5 seconds upon taking things picture after picture, the fastest in the market.


2. Devices Free from PC Connection


You no longer need to have that USB cable ready whenever you need to move and modify some files on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch. With iOS5, almost all operations that are supposed to be done with PC or MacBook connections have been done away. You can now download apps to your device, edit photos, videos, and other files on the same device with no need to have it tied with a PC or laptop.


1. Ease of Update

If you think that it would cost you additional money in upgrading your existing OS to iOS5, think again. Yup, you do not need to spend another dime for an update. All you need to do is to access iTunes, have the device connected to the unit, and just follow the instructions. Simple and neat!
